There’s a Laser Etcher in the Office
So we’re all racking our brains, trying to figure out what to etch. It’s the tattoo syndrome. What do you mark yourself with when it’s permanent? And to take it a step further, why am I suddenly aware of how much my laptop is an extension of myself?

Alison once said that if she wasn’t an architect, she’d want to be a florist. If I wasn’t an editor, I’d be a brewer. Or kite maker, or sneaker designer, or photographer, or DJ, or…
Well the point is I go thru a lot of hobby phases. I’m the jack of all trades, and master of none. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Specialization is for ants.
I digress. Assuming all went well, I’ll have batch #1 of my Mau’s M.F.A. in 2 weeks. Oh… what’s that? M.F.A? Why, that would be an acronym for Mau’s Mother F#$*ing Ale of course.

As reported on Laughing Squid and BoingBoing today, Flickr has a Bad Signage group. I joined with this picture from the Los Angeles Griffith Observatory. After closing down for 3-4 years or so, it went from this:

to this:

Amazing huh?
I fully understand and support the purpose of the LA conservatory, which serves to preserve architectural building history. I just don’t think this signage serves the best interest of the observatory.
Update: I especially wasn’t a fan of their new newspaper roll telescopes, demontrated here by David.
Shame on me. When I think of niche film festivals, I imagine entries normally rejected for lack of content, admitted for the ability to find the niche theme laced in it’s unwatchability. Shame on me. I need to go to more film festivals. At least return to San Francisco’s Bicycle Film Festival next year.
Our Sunset friends joined Ali and I on Friday evening to watch Program 1 of many. The first film, Street Fighter, was a HD/16mm/8mm beautiful look at Toronto’s Critical Mass, directed by the festival creator Benny Zenga. I missjudged the youtubesque intro. Shame on me. It was gorgeous and captivating.
the main event was, Monkey Warfare. Disguised initially as a low budget, film school flunky, the film’s content quickly made up for the lack of production design polish. The films activist theme couldn’t have come at a better time in my life, finding myself in a city filled with a movement for every cause. From gutter punks to bicycle gangs. From Neo-Ludites, to Singularity Summits. From Vegans to causeless self important bloggers. Shame on me.

Park(ing) Day, originally uploaded by maubrowncow.
Double bonus points today. It’s both International Peace day (celebrated at my office with 500 red, white, and blue sugar cookies… since the U.S. is the sole provider of world peace of course), as well as Park(ing) day here in the city.
Park(ing) day is when the REBAR artist collective piss off drivers by laying sod trees and park benches in precious parking spaces and feed the meter to make it legit. This particular park even had wi-fi. Some of the insalation artist are cooks. It’s worth the trip just to talk to them.
You can take your own walking tour of 5 installations here.
Say Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….
I take pride and joy in every moment captured on the tiny 10 megapixel CMOS chip on the back of my digital camera. There is thrill in stealing 1/60 of a second from time that can sum up an entire day, or a wealth of feelings on a face.
Ali and I tried stealing a little longer than 1/60 of a second. longer than 1/8 or a second. Here is our 30 second art.

The photo series Ali and I made was, make no mistake, influenced by the new sprint commercials. Their process was a little more complicated.
Sandwich.. But look at all these yerba buena roadkill., originally uploaded by mausmenu.
I had lunch today at Yerba Buena Park across from the Moscone Center. It was as if the park was zapped of it’s oxygen supply. I’m sad that I wasn’t invited to play whatever game they were playing.

I missed my 4:50 transbay bus just to get this shot for you. 1st street, between Mission and Howard just kinda fell into itself. Nobody was hurt except for a few of these guys brain cells. Tread lightly my SFists.
