It may just be as important to look at the things not in your bucket list as it is to look within it. If something isn’t in the bucket due to fear, I figure I should probably add it. Within reason of course.
Running a marathon was never in my bucket and my excuses were well defined.
- I wasn’t genetically designed to run 26 miles and 385 yards.
- A marathon is an unnatural distance to run. Hell, it killed Pheidippides.
- Everyone I know who has run a marathon has had physical consequences.
- I’m not stupid.
After 30 years of keeping this list in my head, I’ve reached quarter life crisis mode and am rethinking what I think my body is actually capable of doing. Thousands of people run marathons every month, so it can’t be all that bad right? Well I’m about to find out in 23 weeks.
I can go on and on about how inspirational my measly max 5 miles have been these past two weeks, and how I fear the weeks to come. I’ll spare you the sappiness except for this one little nugget that got me to start this as well as many other projects in the first place.
Quit over analyzing and fucking do it already.
