I’ve been on this beer kick lately. I’ve made a habit of grabbing a large bottle of obscure beer and doing a tasting. I didn’t say, “drink”. Budweiser is for drinking. These obscurities are for tasting. Kind of like the difference between hearing a song and really listening to a song. This is when true appreciation of art comes into the picture.
Today was Allagash White. A subtly fruity, mostly spicy wheat beer from New England. Brewed with coriander, it pours cloudy like the hefeweizen they’re paying tribute to. It’s always hard to tell with these yeasty wheat beers whether i’m tasting hints of lemon, or I’m just imagining it due to the fact bartenders always serve German wheats with the overbearing citrus sitting on the rim of the glass. This glass finally allowed this beer newbie to confirm a hint of zest.
This thing is drinkable pretty much at any point in the day, year, or sobriety. Do it.
