Oh My Mac. How do i pimp thee? Let me count thy ways.

It would be a pain to list all my mac hacks, programs, and scripts in one cohesive post. That would be a task for a professional journalist, full time blogger, or someone who puts effort into things. I am none of these. So, by request, I’m simply going to post them every once in a while, under the “Me and Mac” tag.

This list is aimed at, “I like my mac, but I’m not a computer scientist” friends of mine. So keep in mind, One man’s “I already new that one” is another man’s “Holy mother of #$% that’s awesome”.
Mac pimping #1:

NetNewsWire

This is by far, the most used application on Spanky (That would be the name of my mac). So much so that I’m admitting a serious addition, so I see it as only fitting to begin with this pimpage. This is the closest thing you can come to a stream of information by plugging a rusty usb spike up your head ala The Matrix.

All the darn thing does is display weblogs to you in an email format, instead of you going to web pages yourself to check if there are any updates. This is how I manage all my friends blogs, plus… wait for it… wait for it… 72 other blogs, Feeds, and Podcasts I actively read.

Anytime a webpage has a blue RSS (or an orange button also pictured below) in the url field, click on it. If you have NetNewsWire setup as your default feed reader, it will automatically load into the application, with unread posts highlighted blue. You can also subscribe if there is a link on a page that says, get this, “click to subscribe”. They make it so easy sometimes.
or

This is the way most blogs were meant to be viewed. Now, whenever any of your fellow bloggers post a new rant about the cute thing their puppy did to the couch, which you actually find disgusting, you see it instantly on your dock as if it were email. You can then pride yourself in being the FIRST to comment, with a thoughtless, non sequitor, because you were racing to be the FIRST to comment.

Yes, i have 469 unread feeds today. And that’s a pretty low number. I told you. Addiction. You can download the app here: NetNewsWire. It does cost $29, but this is one of the only mac pimping subjects I’ll list that require you to plop down some moola. I highly recommend it.

If you disagree with this post, please comment. If you have an alternative or correction, please comment. If you want to flame me, please comment at http://www.Gotohell.com.

Also, this program is like a gun. It’s no fun without ammo. Here are a few bullets I subscribe to: enjoy.
